MACOMB, Ill. - The
2011 Phil Steele Preseason College Football Magazine listed five Western
Illinois Fighting Leathernecks as Preseason All-Missouri Valley Football
Conference. The publication announced the teams Wednesday (July 20).
Punt returner Myers
Hendrickson (Macomb/Macomb), kickoff returner Bryce Flowers (Pittsburg, CA/Army Prep),
wide receiver Terriun Crump (Country
Club Hills/Coll. of DuPage), offensive lineman Jordan Valle (Peru/LaSalle-Peru), and kicker Pat Smith (Quincy/Notre Dame) were all listed Second Team at their
respective position.
Hendrickson took over punt return duties midway through
season and averaged 9.3 yards per return (16 returns/149 yards). He finished
third in the MVFC and 31st nationally. The senior wideout also caught five
passes totaling 88 yards last season.
Flowers accounted for a team-leading 107.2 all-purpose yards
per game, ranking him 62nd in the nation. He rushed for 804 yards and eight
touchdowns, averaging 5.4 yards per carry, and caught 19 passes for 332 yards
and a touchdown. A three-time MVFC 'Newcomer of the Week' last year, Flowers
averaged 19.8 yards on a team-leading 13 kickoff returns.
Crump ended his junior year with 56 catches totaling 888
yards and five touchdowns. He ranked 43rd nationally with 68.3 receiving yards
per game, and 81st averaging 4.3 receptions. The senior wide receiver set
personal-highs with 10 catches totaling 183 yards and a score at South Dakota
State. He also surpassed 100 yards against Illinois State (4 catches/122 yards)
and in the playoffs at Coastal Carolina (5 catches/102 yards).
Valle started at center in all 10 games he played in before
suffering an injury and missing the final three contests. He helped the 2010
offense finish third nationally in total offense, 11th in scoring offense, 13th
in passing offense and 23rd in rushing offense. He has played in 18 games over
the past two seasons, and is one of three starters back on the offensive line.
Smith took over the placekicking duties during the last six
games of his freshman season after transferring to the Leatherneck program last
summer. He converted all 21 extra point attempts and went 5-of-7 on field
goals. Smith went 9-of-9 on extra points in just his second collegiate game, a
win over Illinois State. He also hit three field goals against Northern Iowa
(19, 28, 32 yards) and also hit a 38-yarder in the NCAA Division I playoff win
at Coastal.
