MACOMB, Ill. - For the second
time during the month of October and third overall this season, Western
Illinois sophomore Martinez Davis (Madisonville,
KY/North Hopkins) was tabbed by the College Football Performance Awards as an
Honorable Mention selection at defensive back. Davis also won the award two
weeks ago, and in September following game two.
Last
weekend at Missouri State, Davis picked off two passes for the second time in a
game this season totaling 20 return yards. He added three tackles in the
contest. Once again he came away one shy of matching the Leathernecks'
single-game record of three (on two occasions).
Davis increased his team-leading
interception total to five, and enters this week tied for third nationally.
His two picks that he returned for a touchdown place him one off the national
lead. His five interceptions are the most by a Leatherneck since William Peterson
had five during his All-American junior year in 2000.
Western
(3-5 overall, 1-4 Missouri Valley Football Conference) returns to Hanson Field
this Saturday (Nov. 3) to begin the stretch run, playing host to Northern Iowa.
Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. Tickets are on sale by calling (309) 298-1190
or online at www.GoLeathernecks.com.
