PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - San
Diego Chargers punter, and Western Illinois Fighting Leatherneck alum, Mike
Scifres earned a spot on The Sports Network NFL All-Football Championship
Subdivision team. The national organization listed the top NFL players in 2012
that finished their playing eligibility at a Division I FCS institution.
The 10-year NFL veteran was one of two kickers and four players
on special teams honored. Last season for the Chargers he averaged 48.3 yards
on 81 punts, landing 30 inside the opponents' 20-yard line. He finished fourth
among the NFL leaders in punt average, and he tied for the ninth-most punts in
the league.
The three-time All-American during his playing days at
Western (1999-2002), Scifres still holds the Leatherneck and Missouri Valley
Football Conference record for career punt average (43.35).
