MACOMB, Ill. - The Leathernecks struggled on Friday (Mar. 1) against the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panthers, falling 8-0.
The Women's tennis team is in Waterloo, Iowa for two matched this weekend with the first one coming against the Panthers of UWM.
Singles play was controlled by the Panthers throughout the match. At number one singles, Western's Yessenia Mejia fell to Maddy Soule 6-0, 6-0. Megan Pazdernick played at number two singles, but fell to Dana Shannon 6-0, 6-0. Number three singles, Chelsea Bailey for the Panthers beat Elana Berdichevsky 6-0, 6-0. Holly Conlin played number four singles for the purple and gold but faltered against Christina Colarossi 6-0, 6-1. Number five singles saw Kristen Havelka fall to Kristin Kurer 6-0, 6-0. Finally, at number six singles Jessica Callahan lost to Brittany Skemp 6-0, 6-1.
Doubles play delivered similar results for the Leathernecks. The pairing of Pazdernick/Callahan fell to Soule/Colarossi 8-0. Berdichevsky/Conlin struggled against Kelly Fritz/Shannon and lost 8-0. Lastly, Mejia/Jessica Theobald faltered against the pairing of Bailey/Skemp 8-1.
The Leathernecks can bounce back quickly when they take on the Panthers of Northern Iowa tomorrow at 11 a.m. Complete results will be available following the match.
