Women's Tennis Heads to Michigan for Summit League Cluster

MACOMB, Ill. – Western Illinois women's tennis will travel to Bloomfield Township, Michigan for their second Summit League cluster of the season. They will have two matches on Friday, (Mar. 29) against the host Oakland Golden Grizzlies at 9 a.m. and the IUPUI Jaguars at 2 p.m. They will conclude the weekend with a single match on Saturday, (Mar. 30) against the South Dakota Coyotes at 9 a.m. The matches will be held at Bloomfield Tennis and Fitness. 

“We're looking forward to playing IUPUI, South Dakota and Oakland. Our players have practiced hard and are improving. I'm sure they will put everything they have into these conference matches,” said head coach Chris Kane. “We got off to a pretty strong start in doubles in our last conference match. I hope we can do that again and ride some momentum.”

LAST TIME OUT: The Leathernecks were in action Thursday (Mar. 14) and Friday (Mar. 15) in Kansas City, Mo. for their first Summit League cluster of the season. Western dropped all four matches to Fort Wayne, Kansas City, Omaha and South Dakota State by 7-0 tallies.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN GRIZZLIES: Last time out Oakland dropped two matches to Youngstown State and Akron both by a 6-1 tally. The Grizzlies come into the weekend sporting a 2-9 overall mark. Tamara Blum who has played to a 10-5 record leads the Grizzlies in singles play. The doubles pairing which has produced the most victories so far is Tamara Blum and Emily Raldt with a 4-9 record.

SCOUTING THE JAGUARS: IUPUI defeated Marian University 4-1 before falling to Butler 7-0 last weekend. The Jags come into the weekend with a 4-12 overall record on the season. Bobbi Modesto who carries a record of 10-6 leads IUPUI in singles play. The doubles tandem of Rachael Bridegroom and Vanessa Whyte have produced the most wins for the Jaguars with six as opposed to only four losses.

SCOUTING THE COYOTES: South Dakota dominated in its last time out against both Valparaiso and Green Bay last weekend. They defeated Valparaiso 7-0 and Green Bay 6-1. Yamini Reddy leads the way in singles play for South Dakota with a 19-7 mark so far this season. The doubles team of Michelle Elkin and Hafsa Laraibi has been the most productive so far with 13 victories.
