Saint Louis Edges Past Men's Tennis, 4-3

GALESBURG, Ill. - The Western Illinois men's tennis team (7-15) dropped a narrow 4-3 contest against Saint Louis (6-11) at Lakeside Tennis Center on Wednesday evening.

Each team won three singles contests apiece, but the Billikens won two of the three doubles matches to earn the decisive doubles point.

Ben Yue posted the Leathernecks' biggest winning margin at fourth singles with an 8-4 victory.

Western also received a victory at top singles, as Christoph Haertel won with an 8-5 score.

Mitch Granger rounded out WIU's singles victories, winning 8-5 at fifth singles.

Patrick Hammers (8-5 at No. 2), Bradley Holt (8-6 at No. 3) and Max Cederkall (8-4 at No. 6) all fell in closely contested singles contests.

In doubles action, Saint Louis clinched the point with wins at second and third doubles. Haertel and Holt were leading 7-6 at top doubles when SLU clinched the point, therefore concluding doubles play.

The contest was moved to the indoor facility in Galesburg due to inclement weather in Macomb. Because of time restraints, the singles matches were played as a single eight-game pro set instead of the typical two sets.

Western Illinois will look to rebound on Sunday, traveling to Indianapolis to take on Summit League foe IUPUI.
