MACOMB, Ill. – Western Illinois women's tennis' Yessnia Mejia was selected Papa John's Scholar-Athlete of the Week on Monday (April 8) for his performance on the field and in the classroom.
The junior notched her first singles win of the season on Wednesday (Apr. 11), against the Monomuth Scots. The Carpentersville native was able to defeat Kristen Huffman in straight sets by a 6-0, 6-2 decision.
Mejia also won with her doubles partner Holly Conlin and defeated the pairing of Julianna Graf and Jessica Witherell, 8-2. Mejia was a major factor in the Leathernecks winning the match against the Fighting Scots.
In the classroom, Mejia owns a 3.132 GPA in psychology.
