Women's Tennis Against Bradley Will Now Be Played In Galesburg

MACOMB, Ill. - They will take on the Bradley Braves on Wednesday (Apr. 17) in Galesburg, Illinois at the Lakeside Tennis Center with the match beginning at 2:45 p.m.

"We're looking forward to hosting an excellent Bradley team on Wednesday in Galesburg, for our last match of the season," said head coach Chris Kane. "We've talked with our players about finishing strong. I think the players will respond with an excellent effort."

The Leatherneck women's tennis team will look to build off their most recent match in which they defeated the Monmouth Scots 7-0 last Thursday (Apr. 11), for their first win of the 2013 campaign.

"We always play better when we get off to a good start in the first few games of the doubles. Momentum is a pretty big factor in college tennis matches," said Kane. "So, we'll hope to get a positive belief in ourselves by serving and returning with consistency when we start the doubles matches."

LAST TIME OUT: Western Illinois defeated the Scots 7-0. Yessenia Mejia, Elana Berdichevsky, Megan Pazdernick, Holly Conlin, Kristen Havelka and Ese Davis all collected singles victories. In doubles, the pairings of Mejia and Conlin, as well as, Jessica Callahan and Jessica Theobald earned victories.

SCOUTING THE BRAVES: Bradley comes into the match with a 8-12 overall mark on the season. Adele Henke is the number one singles player for the Braves with a 9-11 record in that slot and 13-15 overall. In doubles play, the pairing that has contributed the most victories is Carly Miles and Kennedy Scott, who sport an overall record of 10-9.

This match for the Leathernecks marks the final time the team will compete on the court in 2013 and marks the conlcusion of Leatherneck tennis careers of Megan Pazdernick and Jessica Theobald.

"Seniors Jessica Theobald and Megan Pazdernick play their final matches as Leathernecks against Bradley. JT has been a two-year captain for us, and has been an excellent captain. She is very organized. That is a great help to me in getting all the behind the scenes details accomplished for a team," said Kane. "JT has also improved her serve a lot, and has done a good job of holding her serve in doubles competition. She is coming off a win against Monmouth, so let's hope she keeps it going."

"Megan has encountered some of the best players in the Midwest this year playing #1 doubles, and #3 singles," said coach Kane. "It is not easy for anyone to play towards the top of a college lineup. Megan has accepted that challenge, and has been an integral part of our team for the past two years. She is a very good student, and Megan should be a great success in her years after graduation from Western."

Complete results of the match against Bradley will be made available as soon as possible at the conlcusion of the match.
