GALESBURG, Ill. - Western Illinois men's tennis (8-16, 2-2 Summit) dropped a tight 5-2 contest to South Dakota State (10-10, 3-1 Summit) at the Lakeside Tennis Center in Galesburg on Friday evening.

Both Bradley Holt and Christoph Haertel won in singles play, but it wasn't enough as the Jackrabbits clinched the match and a spot in the Summit League Tournament.

The Leathernecks currently sit in third place in the Summit League standings, and can clinch a spot in the four-team conference tournament with a win over Fort Wayne on Sunday at 10 a.m. in Macomb.

Holt picked up a come-from-behind victory at third singles after dropping the first set with a score of 3-6, 6-1, 6-4.

Haertel also won a tight contest at top singles, picking up the 6-4, 7-6 (7) victory.

Patrick Hammers and Mitch Granger each fell in back-and-forth matchups. Hammers lost in three sets at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3, while Granger ended up falling in a tiebreak, 6-4, 7-6 (6).

The Jackrabbits also won the doubles point by sweeping the doubles competition. Haertel and Holt fell at top doubles by a 9-8 (10-8) margin, while Granger and Ben Yue dropped an 8-6 decision at second doubles.

Western Illinois will look to rebound Sunday, closing out the regular season at home against Fort Wayne, as the squad will recognize Hammers, the team's lone senior.
