MACOMB, Ill. – Chris Kane, who served as the head coach of the Western Illinois men's and women's tennis teams the past three seasons, has resigned effective immediately. Director of Athletics Dr. Tim Van Alstine made the announcement on Monday (April 22).
Assistant coach Mashiska Washington will oversee both programs during the transition.
The women completed their season last week while the men were eliminated from qualifying for the Summit League Tournament on Sunday following two consecutive losses to conference foes to close out the season.
Kane posted a 20-47 mark with the men's program during his three-year tenure, including a 7-9 record in Summit League play. The Leathernecks qualified for the postseason tournament his first year, but lost in the semifinals. This season Western finished 8-17, 2-3 in the Summit League.
On the women's side, Western was 5-52 the past three years, 1-22 in Summit League play. The Leathernecks had 1-17 records each of the past two years and registered their only conference win two years ago.
