ELMHURST, Ill. - Western Illinois track & field student-athletes Nathaniel Marshall and Jeffrey Liles were named to the Academic All-Summit League team, the conference announced on Thursday afternoon (May 16).
The honor recognizes student-athletes who achieve success both on the track and in the classroom.
Marshall earned All-Summit League honors in the hammer throw and qualified for the NCAA West Regional to be held next week with his season-best throw of 60.02 meters.
In the classroom, the junior Biology major and Psychology major holds a 3.563 grade point average, and he was also recognized as Academic All-Conference during the indoor season.
Liles has maintained a perfect 4.0 grade point average as a Biology major and Chemistry minor. In the conference, Liles ranked in the top 10 in both the 400-meter hurdles and javelin throw.
Five Leathernecks, including Marshall, will be in action next week at the NCAA West Regional at the University of Texas from Thursday-Saturday.
