Jamario Taylor Ties for 17th Place at NCAA West Regional

AUSTIN, Texas - Jamario Taylor tied for the ninth-best mark in the high jump at the NCAA West Regional, but the Western Illinois track & field junior's season came to an end via tiebreaker at the University of Texas on Thursday night.

Taylor cleared 6-11.50 on his third attempt, while only eight were able to clear 7-01.00, the next-highest mark. Because eight others cleared 6-11.50 on their first or second jumps, Taylor was pushed into a tie for 17th place, and only the top 12 advance to the NCAA Championships.

The junior already holds the program record in the indoor high jump and is tied for the record in outdoor track & field. He has also won two consecutive Summit League titles in the outdoor high jump.

Despite having his season coming to a close, Taylor still out-jumped competitors from Washington State, California, Oklahoma State, Air Force, USC, Oregon, Minnesota, Texas A&M, Kansas, BYU, and more on Thursday.

Tynan Murray also represented the Leathernecks in the high jump, but failed to clear the starting height of 6-07.50.

On Friday, Nathaniel Marshall will compete in the hammer throw at 2 p.m. and Glenn Powell will race in the preliminary 110-meter hurdles event at 5:30 p.m.

Dana LaRue will round out the Leatherneck competition, participating in the shot put on Saturday (May 25) at 6 p.m.
