Two Leathernecks named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District basketball teams

MACOMB, Ill.  -  Western Illinois men's basketball senior guard David Nurse and women's basketball junior guard/forward Jackie Barton were each named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic District V basketball teams.

Nurse, the only Summit League player to earn the honor, was named to the first team. Nurse holds a 3.8 grade point average as a graduate student working toward a master's degree in business administration after earning a bachelor's degree in communication.

In his third season, Nurse has 72 career starts under his belt, has recorded 30 career games in double figures and entered Western's career record books with 143 three-point field goals. The Kearney, Mo., native holds the second-highest scoring average (9.0 ppg) for the Leathernecks this season and led Western Illinois in both scoring and rebounding in their last victory over North Carolina Central.

Barton earned second team honors as she holds a 4.0 grade point average. The junior psychology major averages 4.2 points per game and is second on the team in rebounds with 5.3 per game. The Freeport, Ill., native has been an instant impact on this year's squad in only her first season with the Leathernecks, making 11 starts and averaging 25.6 minutes per game.

Barton, Nurse and the men's and women's basketball teams play host to IUPUI, Saturday, in Western Hall with the women's game starting at 4:30 p.m. and the men's tipoff set for 7 p.m.
