MACOMB, Ill. — Junior women's basketball player Jackie Barton has been named the Western Illinois Scholar Athlete of the Week based on her performances on the court and in the classroom.
The Freeport, Ill., native scored a season-high 15 points and pulled down five rebounds in Western's 61-50 win over IUPUI on Saturday, Feb. 6. She is averaging 4.7 points per game and is grabbing 5.3 rebounds per game, the second-most rebounds on the team.
Barton earned CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic District V second-team honors as she holds a 4.0 cumulative grade point average. In only her first season with the Purple and Gold, she is making an instant impact as she has made 11 starts and is averaging 25.6 minutes per game.
Barton and the Fighting Leathernecks hit the road for their next two games, playing at Centenary on Feb. 13 and at Oral Roberts on Feb. 15.
