MACOMB, Ill. - Western
Illinois Football coach Mark Henrickson and the four Leatherneck captains took
time out of their preparation for the season-opener to speak at the Edison
School in Macomb on Wednesday morning (Sept. 1).
Seniors Mike Stieren, Lito Senatus, Matt Barr and Kyle
Glazier gave motivational speeches to the students on sports, academics and
being the best person they can be.
"This morning the four captains led an academic,
extra-curricular pep rally. It's truly an event both the players and young
people equally enjoy. The players love visiting with children of this age and
emphasize whatever you decide to do give it your best," said Hendrickson. "This
is the 12th consecutive year I've been to Edison School with a group of our
players. I know the school really enjoys it, I know the players get a lot out
of it as well. This is a great way for our players to talk to young people in
the community."
Western opens the season Thursday night (Sept. 2) against Valparaiso. Kickoff at Hanson Field is scheduled for 6 p.m.
