MACOMB - Western Illinois cross country runner Mike McGraw (Knoxville, Ill./Knoxville) has been named the Papa John's Scholar Athlete of the Week for his accomplishments last weekend in the season-opening meet and in the classroom.
McGraw took first place in Friday's WIU Early Bird Invitational, finishing with a time of 26:09 in the 8K race. McGraw won the meet by two seconds and finished 16 seconds off of his best time in the 8K, which was set in 2008. McGraw was named to the 2009 Summit League's Fall Academic All-League Team. McGraw's work in the classroom also earned him the title of 2010 Summit League District Scholar Honors for carrying a GPA of 3.60 or higher. McGraw was also part of a Leatherneck team that took the Summit League All-Academic Team honors in Winter/Spring 2007-2008 and Fall of 2008.
McGraw is a senior Supply Chain Management major who holds a 3.693 grade point average and is in the Honors Program. McGraw was also one of 43 Western Illinois student-athletes to earn the 2009-10 Student-Athlete Provost Award. The award was given to those student-athletes who achieved at least a 3.5 grade point average.
