ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Bryce Flowers (Pittsburg, CA/Pittsburg) picked up his second 'Newcomer of the Week' award by the Missouri Valley Football Conference, helping Western Illinois to a convincing 40-7 Homecoming win over Indiana State on Saturday (Sept. 25). Flowers earned the award for the second time this month (Sept. 5 following Valparaiso game).

The freshman running back recorded a personal-high 192 rushing yards on 26 carries, averaging 7.4 yards per attempt. He matched a personal-high scoring two touchdowns on the slippery field as it rained the entire game. Western rushed for a season-high 384 yards in the conference-opening win.

Flowers moved into the conference lead, averaging 109.8 yards per game. He ranks ninth nationally in rushing and 45th in all-purpose yards per game (124.5 ypg). Flowers continued his streak of rushing for a touchdown in every game this season, now with a team-leading six TDs on the ground.

The Leathernecks (3-1 overall, 1-0 MVFC) travel to nationally-ranked North Dakota State this Saturday (Oct. 2). Kickoff against the Bison (#16 last week, 3-1 overall/0-1 MVFC) in the Fargodome is scheduled for 1 p.m.
