2010-11 Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence (pdf)
ELMHURST, Ill. - The Western Illinois softball and women's track & field squads received the Summit League's 2010-11 Team Academic Achievement Award, as announced by the league office Wednesday.
The award, given in each of the conference's 19 sports, is based on the percentage of list-eligible student athletes. The Fighting Leatherneck softball (55 percent) and women's track & field (52 percent) programs had the highest percentage of their eligible student-athletes named to the Commissioner's List. The honor is the second straight for the Western Illinois softball team, who also won the 2009-10 Team Academic Achievement Award.
Overall, 110 Western Illinois student-athletes were selected to the Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence. Centenary claimed The Summit League's Institutional Academic Achievement Award with a league-best 44 percent of its list-eligible student-athletes recognized. North Dakota State, Oakland, Oral Roberts and South Dakota State each placed in a tie for second with 42 percent of its student-athletes honored.
In order for a student-athlete to be selected to the Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence, he/she must carry a 3.00 or better cumulative GPA, achieve sophomore academic standing at the institution, have used a year of eligibility and be on the squad list in the sport in which he/she is nominated. Transfers, graduate students and junior college graduates must have completed one academic year at the nominating institution. True freshmen, redshirt freshmen and first-year transfers are not eligible for the award.
