ELMHURST, Ill. - Junior
midfielder Husref Jupic (Des Moines, Iowa) was named Summit
League 'Offensive Player of the Week' for the first time in his career as
announced by the league office Monday (Oct. 31).
Jupic proved
to be the offensive spark the Leathernecks needed Saturday night, leading the
team with six shots, three on goal, and netting the game-winner to lift Western
over UMKC, 3-2 in overtime. His golden goal came at 101:51 off a rebound from a
corner kick and clinched Western Illinois' first regular season title and
top tournament seed since 2006.
On the year,
Jupic is tied for the team lead with nine points, ranking second in both goals
(three) and assists (three).
The award
marks the fifth 'Player of the Week' award for the Leathernecks this season.
Senior goalkeeper Andy Ryan earned the first four awards earlier this year.
Western
(9-5-1, 4-1) will play a rare Tuesday night contest next week on the road
against the Purple Aces of Evansville.
