AUSTIN, Texas - Western Illinois student-athlete Jamario Taylor
(men's high jump) concluded his impressive 2012 outdoor season Saturday (May 26) after finishing 20th with a jump of 6-11.25 in the West Preliminary Round in Austin, Texas.
The
top-12 student-athletes from each event move on to NCAA Outdoor
Championships in Des Moines, Iowa which takes place June 6-9.
Eariler this season, Taylor (Aurora, Ill./East Aurora) became the fifth Leatherneck to win an
outdoor men's high jump conference title by clearing a height of 7-00.25. The
last Fighting Leatherneck to win an outdoor men's high jump conference title
was Lawrence Hardin in 2010 (6-08.75). Taylor's season-best performance at the
SIUE Gateway Classic (7-00.50) ranks 40th nationally and 19th in the NCAA West
Region.
Eariler in the NCAA West Regional action, Nichole Manning (women's pole vault), Dana LaRue (women's shot put), and Nathaniel Marshall (men's hammer throw) also concluded their impressive 2012 campaigns after finishing tied for 20th, tied for 38th, and 45th, in their respect events.
Manning (Kansas
City, Mo./Winnetonka), who cleared a height of 13-02.50 at The
Summit League Championships to set the pole vault program record placing
third overall, vaulted a height of 12-10.25 and placed tied for 20th in
the West Region.
LaRue (South
Holland, Ill./Thornwood), who used a personal best throw of 51-00.25 to
place second in the women's shot put at The Summit League Championships,
placed tied for 38th in the West Region with a throw of 46-07.25.
Marshall (Bushnell, Ill./Bushnell-Prairie City), who placed
second in the men's hammer throw at The Summit League Championships with a toss of 191-11, placed 45th in the West Region with a throw of 172-04.
