4. Jenna Verity named a Rhodes Scholar finalist; Laura Lins receives the Lincoln Academy Student Laureate Award
The 2011-12 season proved to be another standout academic year for the Leathernecks.
Track and field student-athlete Jenna Verity became Western Illinois University's first-ever Rhodes Scholarship finalist. Verity, who graduated in three years, advanced to the final interview round to receive one of the most prestigious academic awards available to American college graduates.

Like Verity, women's soccer senior Laura Lins accumulated numerous academic awards and honors throughout her career. The most prestigious for Lins was when she was named Western's representative to receive the Lincoln Academy Student Laureate Award. Student Laureates are honored for their overall excellence in curricular and extracurricular activities. She became the third Leatherneck student-athlete to claim the honor in the previous five years.
