MACOMB, Ill. - Western Illinois football student-athlete Pat Smith
(Quincy/Notre Dame) has been named the Papa John's Scholar-Athlete of
the Week for his accomplishments on the field and in the classroom.
Smith was perfect on both field goal attempts, including a career-long 46-yarder right before halftime, and made all three extra point attempts in the 27-17 win over Indianapolis. His 34-yard FG late in the fourth quarter sealed the victory. In his first year also as starting punter, Smith averaged 41.8 yards on his four punts - including a long of 51 yards – and put two of his six kickoffs in the endzone.
His 46-yarder was the longest made field goal by a Leatherneck since 2008. He is 5-for-5 this year in both field goals and extra points. His made FG and percentage both rank him in a tie for first nationally.
Smith owns a 3.506 grade point average majoring in Finance.
