NEBRASKA CITY, Neb. - Ben Kilborn shot matching 77s during the opening two rounds of the Fairway Club Invitational to lead the Western Illinois golf team on Monday (Sept. 10). The event is being played at the ArborLinks Golf Course.
The Leathernecks enter the final round in 10th place, shooting 319 to open the Invitational then followed with a 311 in round two.
Host Nebraska (598) holds a two shot lead over South Dakota State. Oral Roberts (603), Missouri State (604) and Illinois State (604) stand among the top five. Drake is next at 609, followed by South Dakota (611), Omaha (624), Creighton (626) and the Leathernecks hold a lead over North Dakota (633) and SIU-Edwardsville (635).
Kilborn is tied for 24th overall, 14 shots off the lead. Peter McKenzie shot an opening round 80 then followed with a 77 of his own to tie for 40th place.
Tyler Thorman responded from his opening round 82 to also card a 77, as his two-round 159 puts him tied for 52nd. Nate Davis (80-81) is tied for 57th and Alex Templin (82-80) is tied for 60th.
The final round is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday (Sept. 11).
