YORKTOWN, Ind. - The Western Illinois women's golf team concluded play at the Ball State Cardinal Classic on Sunday (Sept. 23). The Leathernecks finished the tournament in a tie for eighth-place with a two-day total of 655 (339, 316).

Individually for Western senior Emily Brink led the way with a two-round total of 158 (77, 81). Brink finished in a tie for 20th place. Just behind Brink in a tie for 26th place was sophomore Ashley Jeffers. Jeffers recorded a 161 (88, 73). Her second round score of 73 was the best for Western on the weekend.

Junior Kristi Tschudin finished in a tie for 38th place with a two-round total of 164 (88, 76). Sophomore Jessica Knepp concluded the tournament in a tie for 55th place with a 172 (86,86). Rounding out team play for Western is Kelsea Visalli. Visalli finished in 67th place with a 177 (90,87).

Playing individually for the Leathernecks was Alexa Arent and Julie Whalen. Arent finished tied for 46th-place with a 168 (85, 83), while Whalen finished 73rd place with a 185 (88, 97).

"Sunday was a little more indicative of what we are capable of with some low scores in the 70s," said head coach Lia Biehl Lukkarinen, "We improved our putting, made some in round adjustments and didn't let any shots or bad holes snowball which I was pleased with."

Western will next be in action starting on October 14th as they host the annual WIU Autumn Invitational. The two-day tournament takes place at the Harry Mussatto golf course in Macomb.
