ELMHURST, Ill. - Western Illinois keeper Laura Atkinson was awarded Summit League 'Defensive Player of the Week' honors for the second time this season following back-to-back conference victories against Kansas City on Friday (September 28) 4-1 and South Dakota on Sunday (September 30) 2-0.
The Oregon, Wis. native, tallied eight saves in Friday's victory against the 'Roos and four in Sunday's shutout over the Coyotes. On the week, she posted a goals against average of 0.50 and a save percentage of .923.
Atkinson leads the Summit League in several categories including: goals against average (0.41), save percentage (.900), wins (5) and goals against (2). She also boasts a perfect 5-0 overall record and 2-0 mark in conference play.
The Leathernecks are back on the pitch this Wednesday (October 3) when they host the Bulldogs of Drake. The match is slated to begin at 3:30 p.m. at John MacKenzie Alumni Field.
