MACOMB, Ill. - Western Illinois junior runner Alycia Thurston (Davenport/Davenport West) has been named the Papa John's Scholar-Athlete of the Week for her accomplishments on the field and in the classroom.
Thurston ran the 6K at the Bradley Classic faster than anyone in school history on Friday (Oct. 12). Her time of 21:48 broke the school record set by Beth Whalen in 2007 by five seconds. Whalen's time in the 6K was 21:53.
Thurston's time was good for 25th individually out of 222 competeing runners in Peoria.
Thurston owns a 3.68 grade
point average majoring in Interdisciplinary Studies.
