MACOMB, Ill. - Men's tennis concludes their fall season this weekend at the ITA Midwest Regionals in Minneapolis, Minn.
Western will bring eight players to the regional, including two that have qualified for the main draw in singles and two teams that have qualified in doubles.
Freshman Christoph Haertel and senior Patrick Hammers have both been selected to be in the singles main draw, which begins on Friday (Oct. 19).
Haertel and Hammers will also be in the doubles main draw. Haertel will be paired with Mitch Granger, while Hammers will be joined by freshman Bradley Holt.
"To my knowledge we have never had two players qualify for singles play or two teams qualify for doubles play in the ITA Regional," said head coach Chris Kane. "It is quite an accomplishment for our team and I'm very pleased."
Six
players will be playing in the qualifying rounds for singles play which begins
on Thursday (Oct. 18). Bradley Holt, Ben Yue, Mitch Granger, Tim Worley, Chris
Bunch and Brandon Meeker will all look to win their respective qualifying
rounds and advance to the main draw.
"The ITA is a great tournament with the top of the top in the Midwest."
continued Kane, "We've played in this tournament the past few years when it was
in Oklahoma. It is filled with the kind of teams we want to be. We will be
playing some of these teams in the spring so it will be good to see them before.
It's going to be a great test for our players."
