MACOMB, Ill. - The North Dakota State volleyball team evened its season series with Western Illinois (9-14, 3-9) thanks to a 3-1 match victory Saturday evening (Oct. 20) in Macomb.
The Bison (10-13, 6-5) opened the match with two set victories, 25-22 and 25-21, before the Leathernecks earned a 25-18 set three win. NDSU closed out the match in the fourth with a 25-19 victory.
Mallory Gibson was a defensive force for Western, blocking nine Bison attacks, five solo and four block assists. As a team, the Leathernecks had 10 blocks, the second straight night with 10-plus, and fifth time this year.
In the back row, Bridget Murphy tallied 17 digs and Ann Miller finished with 11.
On the offense side of the net, Samantha Fournier finished with a team-high 16 kills, while Miller and Katie Hosteng each had 10.
Sarah Fetter recorded 39 assists in the match.
NDSU was led by Megan Lambertson and Brynn Joki who each finished with 14 kills, while Catherine Yager finished with 48 assists.
The Leathernecks return to the road for their next three games starting at Omaha next Saturday (Oct. 27).
