Cross Country tops Summit League in Academic Awards

MACOMB, Ill. - Five Leathernecks were rewarded with Academic All-League honors for their academic excellence. To be eligible for this academic honor you must carry a 3.3 grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale, completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of their team's competitions.

Chase Marlow and Andrew Hood were named to the Summit League All-League Academic team on the men's side. Marlow, finished 14th at the Summit League Championhips and earned all-league second team honors. The two selections from Western were tied with IUPUI Kansas City for the most from any school.

The Western women's squad, however, led the Summit League with three selections. Alycia Thurston, Mackenzie Gray and Chelsea Lynes earned academic honors. Thurston finished ninth overall at the Championship meet and earned All-League Second Team honors.The Leathernecks for the women led the Summit League in selections.

Next up for the Leathernecks is the NCAA Midwest Regional meet slated for Friday, November 9 in Springfield, Missouri on the campus of Missouri State.
