MACOMB, Ill. - The Western Illinois baseball
coaching staff has announced the first-ever 'Leatherneck Baseball Parent &
Son Fundamentals Camp', which will take place on Sunday, December 2, inside
Western Hall from 1-4 p.m.
The camp is
an instructional camp for children ages 6-13 and their parents. The camp will
teach proper baseball fundamentals in the areas of throwing mechanics,
pitching, hitting, and defense. Campers will be split into groups with other
same aged campers. Parents will be taught easy and fun drills that they can
continue with their sons to build their baseball skills
The cost of
the camp is $80 total for both parent and son, or $120 total for a parent and
two children. Each camper and parent will receive a Western Illinois baseball
t-shirt.
Campers are
encouraged to bring a glove, tennis shoes and a bat (if you already have one).
Campers are also asked to put their name on all gear to prevent lost items.
Camp
instructors will include Western Illinois head baseball coach Ryan Brownlee
along with the rest of his staff.
"This is a
camp that we started at James Madison that has worked great, we've been doing
it for 15 years now." said Brownlee, "It worked great at Iowa as well during my
nine years there. It's a great camp teaching parents how to teach their kids
about baseball. Parents can expect a lot of instruction during the three-hour
camp. We'll have handouts available that will be beneficial to the parents and
campers, it will be well worth their time to come to this camp."
Assistant
coach Shane Davis will be in charge of pitching, while assistant Dusty Napoleon
will be in charge of hitting. Also there to assist will be Dan Russell, Matt Igara and Bill Albee, all members of the Leatherneck coaching staff and all
former college baseball student-athletes.
The camp is
limited to the first 50-parent/son combos. For more information, contact
Leatherneck assistant coach Shane Davis at ss-davis2@wiu.edu.
