CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The Leatherneck women's tennis team traveled to Champaign on Friday (Jan. 18) to face the 24th ranked Fighting Illini of Illinois.

Western struggled throughtout the match in both singles and doubles play.

"We just played a great team tonight," said third-year head coach Chris Kane. "There's a reason they are contenders for national honors. I'm happy we had the opportunity to play Illinois. I think it will benefit us in the future."

"Tonight's match also gave us a chance to try different doubles combinations," added Kane.

More importantly, it was a great opportunity for four new players to the roster to experience the atmosphere of college tennis.

The Leathernecks will look to bounce back next Saturday (Jan. 26), as they square off against Northern Illinois and Valporaiso in Floosmoor, Illinois.
