JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Western Illinois men's golf team
concluded its second invitational of the 2013 spring season, the Butler hosted Benbow Invitational, tied for 12th-place with a 36-hole score of 631 (316, 315).
Florida Atlantic won the tournament with a score of 582 (289, 293), and two golfers finished in a tie for an individual invite-best score of 141 in Cleveland State's Andrew Bailey and Bethune-Cookman's Ryan Fricker. Fricker, though, won medalist honors in a playoff win over Bailey.
Finishing tied for 20th and leading the way for Western was senior Ben Kilborn who recorded a score of 150 after tallying a 78 in round one and 72 in the second round.
Sophomore Nate Davis finished tied for 51st with a score of 158 (79, 79). Junior Peter McKenzie recorded a score of 161 (78, 83) for a tied for 57th-place finish. Tying for 75th was junior Dan Bidle who tallied a score of 168 (87, 81), and rounding out Western top-five was senior Konrad Deka who finished tied for 81st with a score of 171 (81, 90).
Playing as individuals was Carson Baugher and Matt Calder who finished tied for 43rd and tied for 51st, respectively. Baugher finished with a 156 (79, 77) and Calder carded a 158 (78, 80).
The Fighting Leathernecks continue spring action on Saturday (March 16) with the
Mission Inn Spring Spectacular (hosted by George Mason).
