ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Western Illinois junior defensive back Dallas Nichols (Phoenix, Ariz./Glendale CC) was named Missouri Valley Football Conference 'Newcomer of the Week' following his performance in the opening game against Hampton.

Making his Leatherneck debut, Nichols broke a Western Illinois record with his 97-yard interception return for a touchdown in the 42-9 win over Hampton. It snapped a record dating back to 1984, and was also the eighth-longest interception return in MVFC history.

Nichols also recovered a fumble, and four of his five tackles were solo stops. He also recorded a tackle for a loss, helping Western snap a six-game losing streak dating back to last year.

The Leathernecks (1-0 overall) return to action on Saturday (Sept. 7) at Hanson Field versus Quincy. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online at www.GoLeathernecks.com or by calling the office at (309) 298-1190.
