Western Illinois Athletics announce 2009 summer camps

MACOMB, Ill.  -  The Western Illinois athletic department currently has 13 summer camps set and is ready for camper registration at www.wiuathletics.com, the official site of Western Illinois Athletics.

Girls entering grades fourth through eighth can attend the women's basketball overnight camp, running June 7-10. The registration deadline is May 8, so sign up now. The women's basketball program will also hold a day camp for girls entering grades first through eighth with a deadline of May 29.

Leatherneck football is offering three camps in three different locations to include Macomb, St. Louis and Chicago. One full day is filled with skill specialization sessions allowing high-school aged boys to focus on different specializations. Macomb's camp is set for June 6, St. Louis camp is set for June 20 and the Chicago camp will take place June 27.

June 14-18, the men's basketball team will host the 2009 Jim Molinari Basketball Camp, which is an overnight camp, with the option to commute, for boys entering grades fourth through 10th in the fall. Campers will work with Western Illinois coaches and players on various skills at Waste Management Court in Western Hall. The camp offers a discount to those who choose to register early.

The same week men's basketball camp is running, a boys and girls soccer camp will also take place. The co-ed camp is offered as an overnight camp for those entering grades sixth through 12 in the fall and is also optional as a day camp for grades fifth through 12.

For boys and girls who enjoy running and are entering grades fourth through 12 in the fall, the Western Illinois cross country team hosts a distance camp, June 23-27, and the track and field team hosts a track and field camp, June 28-July 1. Campers will have the opportunity to train on the collegiate cross country course and track at Hanson Field.

Three separate volleyball camps will be offered for individual work, team work and coaches, beginning July 10-12. Girls aged 10-13 will gain experience in skill level, while those aged 14-18 have the option to join a setter, hitter or libero camp. The team camp runs every Wednesday in July, but is limited in numbers so teams are encouraged to sign up early.

Each athletic camp offers a camp T-shirt, meals and on-site athletic training staff. Campers who choose to stay overnight will be housed in the air conditioned residence halls on the campus of Western Illinois University.

Baseball, softball, swimming and diving and tennis camps will be announced at a later date. For more information and the latest updates, check out www.wiuathletics.com/camps.
