MACOMB, Ill. - The Fighting Leatherneck family mourns the loss of one of its own in Dan Rouse who passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 15. The Macomb, Ill. native was a prominent member of the Western Illinois equipment staff for a total of 30 years and retired from his post in 2010.
At Western Illinois, Rouse, also known as Rouser, Danimal or Splinter, had equipment duties for each sports program.
Following his retirement from Western Illinois, Rouse continued to serve as the volunteer equipment manager at Macomb High School, a position he began as a sophomore in 1972. In addition to equipment maintenance and care, he compiled Bomber competition statistics.
He was also inducted into the Illinois Basketball Hall of Fame, named Citizen of the Year and was the Grand Marshal of the Macomb High School homecoming parade.
According to the Director of Equipment Operations at Western Illinois, Diane Bruns, Rouse was very loyal and dedicated to his work. Western Illinois and Macomb High School athletics were his life and he considered them family.
