MACOMB, Ill. - Fighting Leatherneck women's soccer heads to Arkansas in search of its first victory of the 2012 season. The squad will start off with a Friday (Aug. 24) matchup at Arkansas-Pine Bluff (0-2-0) and close the weekend with a Sunday (Aug. 26) afternoon match at Arkansas-Little Rock (0-2-0).
In the opening match of the season last Sunday (Aug. 19), Western Illinois dropped a 1-0 decision to Northern Iowa. While the Panthers produced the lone goal of the match, the Leathernecks controlled possession for the majority of the contest outshooting UNI 14 to nine.
Chrissy Campbell led the squad with two shots on goal, and keeper Victoria Kappel recorded three saves. To view the full recap of last week's match and the box score, click HERE.

A LOOK AT THE LIONS: Arkansas-Pine Bluff, a member of the Southwestern Athletic Conference, enters the weekend with an 0-2-0 record...The Lions dropped their season opener 3-0 to Central Baptist College and followed it with a 6-0 loss to Arkansas State...In 2011, the Lions were a perfect 8-0 in SWAC play and 16-5-1 overall...The squad has won the SWAC Women's Soccer Championship in two out of the last three years (2009 and 2011).

A LOOK AT THE TROJANS: Arkansas-Little Rock, a member of the Sun Belt, enters the weekend with an 0-2-0 record...The Trojans opened their season with a 5-0 loss to Missouri State and were defeated 3-1 in their second match against Austin Peay...In 2011, the Trojans posted an overall record of 7-13-0 and a conference mark of 3-8-0 for a ninth place ranking in the Sun Belt.

CAPTAINS: Three members of the Leatherneck women's soccer senior class, Sarah Blaase, Katie Condon and Kellie Julius, will captain the squad this season.
2012 ROSTER BREAKDOWN: The Purple & Gold return 23 total student-athletes including eight primary starters in Kellie Julius, Katie Condon, Amber Davis, Miranda Graham, Sarah Blaase, Kristin Kuhar, Jordan Spaciel and keeper Victoria Kappel.
NEWCOMERS: Western Illinois added six newcomers to the roster, including two junior transfers (Paula Prpich and Jordan Walgren) and four true freshmen (Melissa Kuhar, Sofia Chmaruk, Lindsey Kuitse and Skyler Jessop).
PRESEASON POLL: The Leathernecks were picked to finish tied for sixth along with IUPUI in the 2012 Summit League Women's Soccer Preseason Poll. Western Illinois tallied 22 points in the all Summit League coach vote. Oakland, last year's Summit League Tournament Champion, was picked to finish first with 61 points and regular season champions South Dakota State took second with 59 points.
