MILWAUKEE - A trio of first half goals proved to be the difference in a 3-0 non-conference loss at No. 20-ranked Marquette in a non-conference game at Valley Fields on Saturday night.
With the win, the Golden Eagles stay perfect at 5-0, while the Leathernecks fall to 2-3 overall.
Marquette got onto the board just 66 seconds into the game, when Eric Pothast scored his third goal of the year on a rebound off the post and an Axel Sjoberg assist.
The Golden Eagles pushed their lead to 2-0 when a Kelmend Islami cross into the box set up Adam Lysak's second goal of the year in the 28th minute.
Andy Huftalin talled Marquette's third goal of the half in the 40th minute on a Pothast assist.
Marquette keeper Charlie Lyon earned his fourth straight shutout, saving all three shots he faced, while Dietrich saved two of the five shots on goal Marquette took.
Senior Nathan Bruinsma and freshmen Erick Bloom and Tyler Chavez each had a shot on goal, while junior Charlie Bales took three shots, as well.
The Golden Eagles held slight statistical advantages in shots (14-10) and shots on goal (6-3).
The Leathernecks will close out their span of five straight road games over the weekend of Sept. 14-16 at the UIC Soccer Classic. Western Illinois will take on Wisconsin a 5 p.m. on Friday and Illinois-Chicago at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
