SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Fighting Leatherneck women's soccer team (6-2) saw its six-match winning streak come to an end Friday after a tough 1-0 loss to Missouri State (4-5-1).

After playing to a scoreless tie after the first period, the Bears' Nia Williams tallied an unassisted goal in the 61st minute to give Missouri State a 1-0 advantage. The goal would later prove to be the game-winner.

"We conceded a goal from 35 yards out and to say we are disappointed is a massive understatement," head coach Ted Floigates said. "I certainly think we did enough to take something from the match. We had so much to play for and to come up short stings badly."

The Leathernecks finished the match with a game-high 14 shots, five of which were on goal to Missouri State's 11 shots, six on goal.

Kellie Julius led Western with three shots on goal, while Sloane Levin and Jordan Spaciel were each able to put a shot on frame.

Each goalkeeper, Western's Victoria Kappel and Chelsea Voet finished the match with five saves.

"I fault myself for failing to prepare us properly, for failing to impress upon us the necessary urgency to get a result," Floigates added. "The players did what I asked them to do, and as such, I must do a better job coaching them. I have let them down and I won't repeat that again."

Western continues its road swing Sunday (Sept. 16) at North Dakota. The two teams are slated to begin at  11 a.m.
