BROOKINGS, S.D. - The Fighting Leatherneck volleyball team (7-8, 2-3) concluded their week of Summit League road action 2-1 after falling to South Dakota State (10-4, 3-1) Saturday evening (Sept. 22). Western defeated Oakland (Sept. 17) and North Dakota State (Sept. 21) earlier this week.

The Leathernecks dropped the first set of Saturday's match, 25-16, before evening the match at 1-1 with a 25-21 set two win. The Jackrabbits, however, were able to hold off the Leathernecks in sets three and four, and earn the 3-1 match victory.

Ann Miller and Katie Hosteng led the Leathernecks attack with 16 and 12 kills, respectively. Miller (.225) and Hosteng (.250) also led the team in hitting percentage in a night when the team as a whole struggled (.138 team hitting percentage).

Sarah Fetter again racked up assists for Western, compiling 46 in the match, marking the sixth time this season she has tallied 45-plus.

Bridget Murphy finished the match with 24 digs, while Samantha Fournier and Bailey Kaloupek tallied 13 and 14 digs, respectively. Hosteng led the team in blocks with five total.

The Leathernecks return home next Friday (Sept. 28) for a match against the Omaha Mavericks. The two teams will play at 7 p.m. inside Brophy Hall.
