ELMHURST, Ill. – Defensive Specialist Bridget Murphy has been named The Summit League's 'Defensive Player of the Week' for her performance last week (Sept. 17-23). Fort Wayne's Emily Spencer earned the league's 'Offensive Player of the Week'.
Murphy helped the Leathernecks finish the week 2-1 with two tough Summit League road wins against Oakland and North Dakota State. It marked the first time since 2007 the Leathernecks had beaten Oakland at their place. The victory at North Dakota State marked the first over the Bison since 2007, and the first-ever at NDSU.
The senior captain finished the week with 82 digs, averaging 6.07 digs per set, while dishing out 16 assists and aces five serves. She owns a 311 digs and 5.10 per set on the season, both of which rank third in The Summit League.
The New Lenox, Ill. native now ranks third all-time in program history with 1,561 career digs.
Murphy collects her third career Defensive Player of the Week honor and first of the season. It also marks the first of any Leatherneck volleyball player this season.
