MACOMB, Ill. - Western Illinois sophomore Martinez Davis (Madisonville, KY/North Hopkins) was tabbed by the College Football Performance Awards as an Honorable Mention selection at defensive back for his effort last weekend.
Davis recorded a career-high six tackles at South Dakota State, and got the scoring going for the Leathernecks when he picked off a pass and returned it 28 yards for a touchdown in the opening minutes of the game.
That was his team-leading third interception this year, and second returned for a score. He moved into a tie for the national lead with his second defensive score via an interception. Davis also moved into a tie for third place among the Western season 'Top 10' leaders for defensive scoring, and also a tie for fourth all-time in the same category (12 points).
His 0.5 interception per game average (3 in 6 games) ties him for 12th among the national leaders.
