QUARTERBACK LUNCHEON: Every Monday Mark Hendrickson speaks at the Macomb Quarterback Club luncheon. The luncheon takes place at Sports Corner @ 124, beginning at 12 noon and the public is invited to attend.

ALL-TIME SERIES: This marks the 32nd meeting all-time between the two programs, all in consecutive years... Western has lost three straight, but two were by a combined four points and last year’s game went down to the wire before a last minute interception return for a touchdown as the Leathernecks were attempting a game-tying drive... Western owns an 8-6-1 record all-time in Springfield.

SCOUTING THE BEARS: After starting the year with six consecutive losses (two to nationally-ranked FBS teams), the Bears have rolled off two consecutive wins... Missouri State currently holds the nation’s toughest schedule as four of the eight teams they played were nationally-ranked at the time... The Bears rallied for the second consecutive week during the fourth quarter, most recently at #11 Illinois State, and won 24-17... Missouri State recorded two safeties in the victory... Back-up quarterback Ashton Glaser led the Bears on the game-winning drive. He finished 5-of-5 passing for 49 yards... Mikael Cooper-Falls recorded 61 rushing yards and Dorian Buford caught four passes totaling 100 yards... Nick Canavan led the defense with 10 tackles while Nate Davis and Cal Schaffitzel added nine each... The Bears rank 20th nationally in fewest sacks allowed (1.3), 34th in net punting (36.3) and 42nd in passing offense (227.9). The pass defense stands 44th nationally at 196.4 ypg.

QUICK HITTERS:
• Western three losses to FCS teams (all nationally ranked) own an 17-4 combined record, and including the loss to FBS Iowa State, opponents are 21-6 W/L.
• The Leathernecks rank 26th in the country in toughest schedule. Western is one of seven Missouri Valley Football Conference teams among the ‘Top 26’.
• Western stands 20th nationally in average attendance (12,878).
• The Leathernecks stand alone nationally in first place in redzone scoring percentage, going 13-of-13.
• With 10 interceptions this year (162 yds), Western currently stands in a tie for 12th nationally and four shy of the MVFC lead. The Leathernecks had eight all of last year for only 55 yards. That’s the most since Western had 11 two years ago totaling 238 yards.
• Western also ranks in the ‘Top 20’ nationally in fewest penalty yards (tied 18th), averaging 43 yards per game.
• Western slipped to 10th nationally in fourth down conversion (73 percent, 8-of-11). On the flip side, the defense is tied for 22nd in the nation allowing a 37.5 percent success rate on fourth down (3-of-8).
• Pat Smith is tied for 15th nationally in field goals made averaging 1.3 per game. His 9-for-9 accuracy is second among all kickers at a 1.000 percentage. He now surpassed his previous two-year total. The junior kicker is up to 103 career points.
• Smith’s career-long 46-yard field goal versus Indianapolis was the longest made in four years by a Leatherneck kicker... It was his second-longest attempt at Western.
• Martinez Davis regained a tie for the national lead thanks to his second interception for a touchdown. His three picks this year not only lead the team but tie him for 22nd nationally.
• Redshirt-freshman J.J. Raffelson was one of 16 nationwide chosen to the initial Jerry Rice Award Watch List (National Freshman of the Year), as announced by the Sports Network. He is one of five representatives from the Missouri Valley Football Conference... He’s tied for 38th nationally in tackles per game, and the second-leading freshman tackler in the country.
• Junior defensive lineman Ryan Demming picked up his first weekly award from the College Football Performance Awards following the Indiana State game. He was an Honorable Mention selection as he recorded a career-high eight tackles.

NEW LOOK DEFENSE PAYING OFF: When Brian Ward joined as Defensive Coordinator, he installed a 4-3 front. The transformation is a reason why Western ranks 42nd in scoring defense allowing 23.3 points per game... This year when you factor out offense and special teams giving up touchdowns (4), the Leatherneck defense allowed no more than 23 points to all non-FBS teams and five of the six games to 17 points or less... Last year all 11 teams scored at least 20... Western has allowed 163 points through seven games. In the same span last year Western gave up 246.
