MACOMB, Ill. - Western Illinois swimming and diving will take on the Bulldogs of Truman State in Kirksville, Mo. this Saturday (October 27). The dual meet is the Leathernecks' second competition of the season and is slated to begin at 11:30 a.m.
In the squad's last outing on October 6 at home against Saint Louis, the men were defeated 172-128 and the women fell 199-85. In the meet, the Leathernecks earned nine first-place event finishes and recorded 15 runner-up spots.

CHAMPS: Junior captain Jonathan Bond took first in the 50 back (25.46) and 100 back (54.47)...Freshman Matt Abercrombie earned event victories in the 500 free (5:54.72) and the 200 IM (2:02.03)...Sophomore diver Doug Ogilvie swept the diving events, placing first in one-meter (233.70) and three-meter (238.35) competition...Freshman Sarah Rosenhauer earned the top spot in 50 breast (32.91)...Fellow freshman Lizzie Hollopeter took first in the 100 back (1:03.34)...Junior captain Julia Rassmussen earned the win in one-meter diving (190.80) competition.
THREE-PEAT: Men's divers sophomore Doug Ogilvie, sophomore Patrick Oliver and freshman Viktor Rusenas took first, second and third, respectively, in one-meter diving competition against Saint Louis.
SUMMIT LEAGUE HONOR: Freshman Matt Abercrombie picked up his first career Summit League Swimmer of the Week honor after earning first-place finishes in 500 free (5:54.72) and 200 IM (2:02.03) competition and a second-place finish in the 1000 free (10:04.18).
RETURNERS: Naumann looks for leadership from Jonathon Bond, Tyler Neaveill and Doug Ogilvie on the men's side and sees Julia Rassmussen and Mary Betsworth leading the way for the women's squad.
KEY NEWCOMERS: Matt Abercrombie, Austin Payne, JD Furr and Dylon Rykosky are expected to make an impact right away, while Megan Popp, Sarah Rosenhauer and Lizzie Hollopeter will spark the women's team.
TEAM STRENGTHS: The men's team is particularly deep in back, distance free, sprint free, breast, fly and diving, while the women are strong in sprint free, distance free and breast.
DIVING REPORT: Leatherneck diving had an impressive year in 2011-12 with Doug Ogilvie earning individual conference titles in one-meter and three-meter diving and being named Summit League Diver of the Year and Summit League Diver of the Championship as a freshman. He also qualified for NCAA Zones in each event. The Oswego, Ill. native returns for his sophomore campaign and is joined by returner Patrick Oliver and newcomer Viktor Rusenas. Julia Rassmussen returns as the lone diver for the women's squad.
DIVING GOALS: Diving coach Gabby Shaw has goals of taking the top three spots on the men's side at the conference championships and having another Diver of the Year honoree. She also wants to see Julia Rassmussen place in the top eight.
CAPTAINS: Junior Jonathan Bond and senior Bart Pienkowski will be team captains for the men and a pair of juniors, Haley Brasile and Julia Rassmussen, were chosen to captain the women's team.
PRESEASON POLL: Western Illinois was predicted to finish last in the Summit League standings in the men's and women's preseason coaches polls. Oakland, South Dakota State and IUPUI were chosen to finish as the top three for the men and the women.
