MACOMB, Ill. - Western Illinois head men's basketball coach Jim Molinari announced the signing of Tate Stensfaard (Rapid City, S.D./Stevens) to a NCAA Letter of Intent Wednesday (Nov. 21).
Stensgaard redshirted last year as a freshman at Sheridan College, and is averaging 15 points and nine rebounds per game this season.
Stensgaard, a 6'8", 190-pound forward/center, averaged 13.8 points and 6.8 rebounds per game at Stevens High School as a senior, leading his team in both categories. His best game came against Sturgis High School when Tate scored 29 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. Stensgaard's honors include being selected All-Greater Dakota Conference Second Team in 2011, as well as being selected to play in the 3rd Annual Northern Hills Senior All-Star Basketball Game. He was also named KOTA News’ Athlete of the Week during the 2011 season.
Stensgaard is the third player that has signed with the men's basketball program this fall. Jabari Sandifer (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) and Garret Covington (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) signed their letters of intent last week.
The Fighting Leathernecks continue their road swing this Saturday, November 24th, at Savannah State.
