Western Illinois Swimming & Diving to Host Dual Meet Saturday

MACOMB, Ill. - Western Illinois swimming and diving returns to action with a home dual meet against Illinois-Chicago this Saturday (Dec. 15). The competition is slated to begin at 2 p.m. at Brophy Pool.

In their last competition at IUPUI's House of Champions meet November 30-December 1, the men took fourth out of five teams, while the women placed seventh out of seven teams. A total of 93 season-bests were set, 65 for the men and 28 for the women.

On the men's side, Matt Abercrombie swam to the 1650 event title (16:24.23). Dylon Rykosky was runner-up in the 200 IM (1:56.67) and took third in the 200 free and 200 fly posting times of 1:43.96 and 1:55.86, respectively. Julia Rassmussen recorded the highest place for the women, taking seventh (206.10) in the one-meter diving competition.

NOTES

SCOUTING THE FLAMES: The men have defeated four of nine total opponents in the season thus far... Defeated Wright State (176-122), Eastern Illinois (165-67) and Illinois Institute of Technology (163-66) in dual meet action... Fell to Western Kentucky and Northwetern in tri-meet competition 201-82 and 197-83, respectively... Placed third out of four teams at the TYR Invitational. The women have recorded victories over five of 12 total opponents this season... Beat Wright State (176-122) and Eastern Illinois (140-92) in dual meets and defeated Illinois Institute of Technology and Butler in tri-meet competition 166-37 and 148-82, respectively... Placed fifth out of six teams at the TYR Invitational.

CUTTING DOWN: In its last action at the House of Champions meet, Western Illinois swimming and diving accomplished 93 season best times or scores... The men had 65, while the women recorded 28.

SUMMIT LEAGUE TOP TEN: Julia Rassmussen ranks seventh in the league on one-meter diving (206.10)... Dylon Rykosky is ranked ninth in 20 free (1:43.96) and 200 IM (1:56.67) and 10th in 200 fly (1:55.86)... Matt Abercrombie is second in 1650 free (16:24.23), sixth in 1000 free (9:57.58), ninth in 400 IM (4:15.44) and 10th in 500 free (4:46.24)... Doug Ogilvie ranks fifth in one-meter diving (284.60) and three-meter diving (280.65)... All relays are ranked in the top ten for both men and women.

CAPTAINS: Junior Jonathan Bond and senior Bart Pienkowski will be team captains for the men and a pair of juniors, Haley Brasile and Julia Rassmussen, were chosen to captain the women's team.

PRESEASON POLL: Western Illinois was predicted to finish last in the Summit League standings in the men's and women's preseason coaches polls... Oakland, South Dakota State and IUPUI were chosen to finish as the top three for the men and the women.
