MACOMB, Ill. - Catcher Lia Romeo was named Papa John's Scholar-Athlete of the Week following her performance in the team's opening weekend at the 2013 Belmont Spring Tournament and in the classroom.
Romeo hit the first pitch she saw in 2013 over the fence in the first inning of play for a solo home run against Central Arkansas on Saturday (Feb. 9). She plated her second run of the game in the eighth inning when she reached on an error.
The Homer Glen, Ill. native went 1-for-4 with two runs batted in in the team's second game against Belmont.
On the weekend, Romeo hit .250 (2-for-8) and picked up four runs batted in. She posted a slugging percentage of .625 with a home run and a perfect fielding percentage with three put outs.
The sophomore is pursuing a degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders and has a cumulative grade point average of 3.542.
