ELMHURST, Ill. - Ashley Luke (Oak Creek, Wisc./Oak Creek) picked up her first weekly award as she was selected Summit League women's basketball 'Player of the Week'.
Her award comes nearly four years to the date when a Western Illinois women's basketball player was chosen conference 'Player of the Week' (Amanda Walker/Feb. 17, 2009).
Luke recorded her third double-double of the season in the 55-50 win over North Dakota State, recording 18 points and 11 rebounds. The win ended a five-game losing streak and secured Western's first-ever regular season sweep of the Bison. She added 11 points in Saturday's 61-52 loss against league-leading South Dakota State.
In Summit League games to date, Luke leads Western averaging 12.3 points and 7.1 rebounds per game (9.4 ppg/6.5 rpg overall). In conference-only games, Luke stands fourth in rebounding and her overall 48.2 percent field goal shooting places her fourth among the leaders.
Western (11-14 overall, 4-8 in Summit League) travels to Kansas City on Thursday night (Feb. 21), tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
