Leathernecks Fall to Cougars in Homewood

HOMEWOOD, Ill. - The Leatherneck women's tennis team played for the second day in a row Sunday (Feb. 24) morning. Western challenged the Cougars of Chicago State in Homewood, Ill. 

The Leathernecks struggled to get things going and fell to the Cougars 7-0. At number one singles, Yessenia Mejia fell to Karyn Emeralda 6-0, 6-0. At number two singles, Megan Pazdernick fell to Carynne Lloyd 6-1, 6-0. Elana Berdichevsky fell to Marnie Perez at number three singles 6-0, 6-0. Viviene Noel beat Holly Conlin at number four singles 6-1, 6-1. Kristen Havelka was defeated by Sabrine Navarro at number 5 singles 6-2, 6-2. Then at number six singles Ese Davis fell to Ruta Grinvalde 6-0, 6-1. 

In doubles play Sunday morning Western's combination of Pazdernick/Callahan fell to Perez/Emeralda 8-1. Berdichevsky/Conlin were done in by Noel/Lloyd by a score of 8-1. Then Mejia/Theobald fell to Navarro/Grinvalde 8-1 as well. 

There were some exhibition matches for both Jessica Callahan and Jessica Theobald in singles play. Callahan was defeated by Mysta Townsell 8-0, while Theobald fell to Mia Townsell 8-3. The combination of Callahan/Theobald challenged both Townsells in a doubles match and fell 8-0. 

The Leathernecks are next in action Saturday (Mar. 2) at 11 a.m. when they travel to the University of Northern Iowa to challenge the Panthers.
