CARBONDALE, Ill. - Despite a strong day from Max Cederkall, Southern Illinois topped the Leatherneck men's tennis team by a 6-1 score at Sportsblast in Carbondale on Sunday (Feb. 24).
The Salukis improve to 4-2 on the season, while Western Illinois moves to 7-10 overall.
Cederkall picked up the lone win at fourth singles by a 6-4, 6-3 margin.
Teamed with Brandon Meeker, Cederkall was also leading 6-5 at third doubles when SIU clinched the doubles point, leaving the contest unfinished.
Bradley Holt lost a pair of tight matches, falling 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 at top singles. Holt also teamed with Mitch Granger in a losing effort at top doubles, 8-6.
Western will look to snap its two-match skid next Wednesday (March 6) as it travels to Bradley for a single nonconference contest at 6 p.m., before gearing up for a pair of Big Ten opponents over the weekend in Wisconsin and Northwestern.
