MACOMB, Ill. - Western Illinois softball head coach Holly Van Vlymen announced the signing of infielder Rebecca Patterson on Friday (June 14). A junior college transfer from Lake Land College, Patterson will have three years of eligibility remaining in the Purple & Gold.
A teammate of fellow signee Kayla Kirkpatrick in 2013, Patterson hit .408 for Lake Land while notching 13 doubles, eight homers and 83 RBI, sixth-most in the NJCAA during her freshman campaign.
"We are so excited to have Rebecca as a part of our Leatherneck Softball family! She is a very versatile softball player that gets it done at the plate," Van Vlymen said. "She has proven herself as an RBI hitter throughout her high school and ASA years and most recently at Lake Land College this past year. She has the drive and dedication to do whatever is needed to make her team the best it can be. We know that she will come in and make a positive impact on our program."
While at Lake Land, she helped guide the team to a conference championship and fifth-place finish at nationals en route to a 51-7 overall mark.
The 2012 Sherrard High School graduate was a four-time All-Conference and All-Area honoree, helping the team to four conference championships, three sectional championships, and a fourth-place finish at state.
A two-time Defensive Player of the Year, Patterson was named The Dispatch / Rock Island Argus Pacesetter her sophomore year with a batting average of .512, while also being on the honor roll all four years.
Patterson becomes the seventh newcomer heading into the fall of 2013, joining former teammate Kirkpatrick, as well as incoming freshmen Alexis Ensminger, Holly Hoelting, Nina Maggio, Taylor Messer and Alex Ward.
